So you made a New Year’s resolution to walk the dog more, and now you want to learn while you stroll. Or maybe you’ve got a long commute. (If you’re here in Atlanta, I can probably remove the “maybe.”)
Here are some dog-focused podcasts to check out.
Hailing from New Jersey, Fern Camacho covers a range of topics in an interesting and insightful manner. Podcasts are usually arranged around a topic (“Dog Group Interactions,” “Raising a Puppy Right,” “Small Dog Training”), but they also include some really excellent interviews. A great place to start. About 30-60 minutes, once a week.
The Dog Rescue Podcast
This is another of Fern’s podcasts. It has far fewer episodes, but they are nevertheless interesting. You know how I feel about rescue dogs.
Quick and Dirty Tips – Dog Trainer
These episodes are short (about 10 minutes, once a week), so they can sometimes feel a bit general. But the information is good and the website includes great transcripts and links to further resources.
I don’t currently train agility, but I still find interesting takeaways in this podcast. Some episodes are topic focused (“The Poisoned Cue,” “The Power of Latent Learning”), whereas others feature more broad-ranging interviews (“Interview with Denise Fenzi”). About 30 minutes, once per week.
Kyra Sundance – The Dog Rules Podcast
Kyra Sundance is probably best known for the 101 Dog Tricks book, but she also provides some behind-the-scenes discussion of performing with dogs (at sporting events, for television, etc.).
The Dog Show with Julie Forbes
Episodes include interviews with people from all over the dog world. Researchers, trainers, vets, pet owners, dog food makers and more. About one hour, once per week.
